Exposed Fossil Abstract Create an abstract piece by using the actions tools to create an explosed fossil.

Ah, this is a nice and fun tutorial, which comes out different every single time. But, you're going to need to pay attention to the steps because they can get a little tricky =)

Ok, then, let's start with a new document. I started with 600 x 600px with a background colour of #212121. Right, grab your pen tool.. and make just.. a random shape. I've created the one below.

For this you're going to need to firstly create your shape. Then click on the 'paths' tab (usually on your layers palate window), right click the thumbnail and click 'make selection' (0 pixel feather)

Now create a new layer and fill it a ligher than your background color.

The important bit here is to make sure it's directly in the middle. So, Select > All... Edit > Cut... Edit > Paste

Now, the next few steps are really trial and error. You're going to need to use your burn and dodge tool (soft and large)

Now, if you get that layer.. duplicate it (Layers > Duplicate layer) and then use Edit > Free Transform to scale it down a very little bit. Then again, center it (Select > All... Edit > Cut... Edit > Paste) Now, add some more burning and dodging to that layer

Add some more layers.. and keep doing it until you're happy...

Yey! Now, let's merge these together by using Layers > Merge Down.. one at a time...

Right, now open your actions palate (if it's not already open) and create a new action, and set it to record.

Ok, we're on record.. so any move you make will be recorded so we can replay it in a moment. So, duplicate your layer (Layer > Duplicate Layer). Then, scale it down.. slightly and rotate it, slightly.. (using Edit > Transform) And then hit ok! Now, stop it recording.

If you play it once, you should have something like this...

Now.. press play until you've had enough.. until it looks nice.

That's finished.. if you like.. if not, let's colour it! =)

You need to merge all thoes layers down again, Layers > Merge Down and then go Image > Adjustments > Colour Balance.. and play around with the settings a little

Right, a bit colourful actaully.. let's make it brighter too. So. Duplicate that layer.. and set the blending options to screen. Now, Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and drag the hue slider to the left a little..

Alright. Now merge thoes two layers together... and duplicate it again.

Then go Image > Adjustments > Hue/saturation and move the hue again, a little bit...

Now grab a really soft brush, and brush a little bit away, in the spiral pattern =) Nice little dual-tone effect. And that's the final product!
