HotWheelz Koenigsegg Create a mini Koenigsegg, by using photo-editing techniques to create the style of car you played with as a kid

For this tutorial, you will need a picture of a Koenigsegg. I'm no 'Koenigsegg' expert, so i'm not going to brag about what model it is or how large its wheels are. Any car will do for this tutorial, as long as it's side on (and i don't reccomend trying it with complecated decals if you're a novice at photoshop)

Let's start with the same picture that I have used:

Pretty.. Now. Personally, i'd duplicate the layer for if and when you do mess up. Or I guess Just saving it is an option..

Right. So, let's start by grabbing the marquee tool on our toolbar. This tool allows us to make a selection around anything we want. So, we firstly want to make a selection around the wheel on the left, and put it on a new layer in the same position. (This is a handy little shortcut) So, once you have selected it, hold CTRL and press J. Simple!

Now, revert back to your bottom layer, with the picture on.. and do the same for the other wheel! Now you have one layer with the car, and two layers with the wheels..

Now, if you take a trip back down to memory lane and recall that these cars were not all that normal. They were a little more of a cube shape, not as long like regular cars. So, switch back to your bottom layer on your layers palate. Now, press Edit > Free Transform and grab the handles in on the left and right hand sides so the car is more square.. like so..

Fantastic! Now i'm sure you'll agree that thoes wheels are a little out of place.. so.. let's take the right hand side wheel first (You'll be happy to know it's the easiest of the two) Select it on your layers palate (Or right click it with your move tool and select it).

We need to get rid of the body of the car that we don't need, So.. add a layer mask (Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal All)

This let's use 'hide' and 'reveal' parts of the image, instead of simple deleting it for good. So, let's grab the paintbrush tool. Set it to a soft size 27 brush (Default is the 12th one down on the brush palate) and set our foreground color to black (hiding colour) Now, we want to get pretty close to the body work, but not the wheel.

It doesn't have to be perfectly accurate, it's just a guide so it's easier to work with.. IF you accidentally remove a bit of the wheel, just swap your foreground to white and start painting to unhide it!

Now, with your move tool.. you can simple use the arrow keys on your keyboard (You should only need to left and right..) to move it into position.

Easy! IF something goes a a little bit wrong.. don't worry.. you'll be able to use the techniques in the next few steps to straighten it out!

So, moving onto the left wheel, which needs a little more concentration. Again, 'hide' the layer like we did in the previous steps (with the layer masks and the paint brush and whatnot) This one won't go as smoothly however...

Check the overlap.. so.. we need to fix that. So go back to your bottom later with the car onit. Grab the Polygonal lasso tool (on the toolbar, hold down the lasso tool icon) and make a cut of that 'vent' on the size of the car. Try and make the bottom line horizontal (by holding shift whilst you draw the line.. and the top line close to the vent as possible.. as shown below..

Now if you've done that correctly, you'll be able to click Edit > Free Transform and drag the left middle handle inwards..

Now press enter. We need to get rid of that white gap in the middle.. so hide the left hand tyre on the layers palate and take your maqruee tool. Now, select a bit where everything is similiar...

And again, do Edit > Free Transform, but this time drag the right handle to stretch accross to fill the gap...

Easy! Now, unhide your tyre and move it accross with your move tool again.

That is basically the tutorial, and this is the final image..

This image was inspired by a picture that I made a few years ago for myself. Here was the previous one.
